During this anxiety ridden time don't let the empty bread shelves add to your stress. Try this simple Bread recipe that everyone in your family will enjoy.
This minimal ingredient recipe has zero additives like the bread you would find in the stores , and as a bonus is a fun activity to help pass the time with your loved ones!
When making this recipe I did not have access to a loaf pan and due to current events was not about to leave the house to go get one, so I improvised with a 9inch cake pan instead and the bread still came out delicious. So don't panic if you don't have a loaf pan just improvise and keep an eye out while its baking! The rosemary I used is also optional, so if you don't have any rosemary around, you could always leave it out.
What You'll Need:
Cake Pan or Loaf Pan
Measuring cups
Measuring Spoons
Large Mixing Bowls
Wooden Mixing Spoon
Whisk
Kitchen Towel
Ingredients Needed:
3 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour (will need an additional amount for kneading)
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt (plus 1/2 tsp for topper)
2 tsp Instant Acting Yeast
2 Tblsp olive oil (plus 1/2 table spoon for topper)
3 sprigs fresh rosemary or (1 tsp dried)
1 1/2 cups warm water (plus 3 tablespoons for topper)
Anti Stick Agent of your choice for bread pan (ex: coconut oil, sunflower oil etc)
Recipe:
Pour Flour and Salt in large mixing bowl and Whisk together
Move Flour and salt towards the sides of the bowl creating an empty space in the middle
Slowly Add your warm water, sugar and yeast and begin mixing
Once the dough becomes hard to Spoon Mix Switch to your hands til incorporated
Flour a clean flat surface and Knead your dough for about 10-15 mins until dough has some spring to it, shiny and supple
note: the dough shouldn't be overly sticky; if so add a bit more flour while kneading
Add Some Anti Stick Agent to the sides of a large mixing bowl
shape your dough into a ball , place in bowl, then cover with a damp kitchen towel
Place bowl to the side and allow dough to rise for about 3-3 1/2 hours
With ten minutes remaining on the rise timer, Preheat your over to 450 degrees F
Once dough has doubled in size remove from bowl and place into greased baking pan
Dimple the top of the bread by gently pressing your finger tips into the dough
Now Take your Remaining salt, water and oil, whisk together and drizzle on top
(note: this will help to keep your bread moist while it bakes in the oven)
Now Scatter Fresh Rosemary all over the top of the bread and transfer to the oven
Bake Bread for 20-25 minutes, let cool and Enjoy!
